Such big picture things can get lost in the hype, but generative AI is a subset/implementation (kind of) of neural nets, which lie within the broader realm of Machine Learning.
And Machine Learning, i.e. the use of evolving mathematical models (basically giant arrays of varying numbers) is just one subset of AI as a field.
AI that uses symbols and rules instead of probabilistic models is the more 'classical' side of artificial intelligence. Examples are languages like Lisp and Prolog and Deep Blue, the computer that defeated Garry Kasparov in 1996.
And it's coming back!
