How did you choose your product/startup name?

Crewting is a mix of "Crew" and "Meeting". So share your thoughts behind your name and where you got the idea? In the shower or in the office?

Co-founder says: "we're building an email platform, in Spanish we call emails Emilios". I jump immediately to GoDaddy to check availability.

@rbatista19 sounds great!

We checked a million options based on avalible domains related to our business. After a lot of searching we found the domain Gilion which matches a lot what we do .A mix of Giga (Data) and Billion (Funding) became Gilion :)
Hossein Yazdi
@carllager Gilion sounds very relevant. Did you manage to find a .com domain for it? Btw, hit the notify me button for Gilion! Let's support each other's launch! :)
Marvin Mändle
@carllager good that you find something. For me Gilion sounds great. Good luck for your launch btw!
Carl Lager
@hosseinyazdi Yes we did. Thank you so much! Yes!
The very first one was "Mess Menu" simple ,small and yet with high callback value
Marvin Mändle
@neeraj_karnawat why did you switch to Fieldmobi?
@marvin_maendle this is different idea and organization all together
Marvin Mändle
@neeraj_karnawat thanks for explaining! Btw. take a look at our launch, when you work remotely :)

That's a GREAT question – we we playing around with different words and combinations, and come up with a simple 'Milestone', as we want to help users achieve milestones while having a gamified experience. I love it! And everyone is now saying to me that every time they say or hear 'milestone' - they think of us 😻 P.S. we're launching tomorrow!! so excited
Marvin Mändle
@anliamets thanks for explaining the backround of milestone. Good luck tomorrow!

II believe the most important is small name! The connection with your business is ok but in the long run if your business holds up high its important customers to remember your business name! Try 6-7 latter at max. Make it catchy and at last have little connection with you business
Marvin Mändle
@mahir_muzahid I agree that name should be short. What means "Oturan"?
Mahir Muzahid
@marvin_maendle "Oturan" sounds like "Auto Run" ! Which we do! Automate website search and query and another thing is its just backward of my favourite anime show naruto😅
Marvin Mändle
@mahir_muzahid exactly these stories I wanted to hear, really like it. Good luck for your launch, will follow:)

I think it is more of a process than a sudden idea. I copied the post recently I shared on X: Your startup's name is its identity. It should be: - - Memorable: Easy to remember and pronounce. - Global: Works well in different languages and cultures. - Professional: Reflects your brand and industry. - Available: The domain name and social media handles should be available. Stuck for ideas? Try these tips: - Combine words: Merging two words can create a unique and meaningful name. - Use numbers: Numbers can add a modern and distinctive touch. - Get creative: Don't be afraid to think outside the box. - Check availability: Make sure your chosen name is available as a domain name and on social media. 💡 Need more help? There are plenty of online tools and resources to help you brainstorm and choose the perfect name for your startup. 🚀 Once you've chosen a name, make sure it's consistent across all your marketing materials and online presence.
Marvin Mändle
@janak_patel56 thanks for sharing this helpful insights. What is the story between TweeFeed? "Tweet" and "Feed"?
Janak Patel
@marvin_maendle Twee is for Tweet, Feed means content. Helping you to generate reply/message (content) ideas for reply/DM.
Marvin Mändle
@janak_patel56 thanks for explaining :)

Picking a name is always challenging. Here's the ground rules we used to pick AdEspresso: - We wanted something with a .com available - Company name starts with an A (Facebook partner portal and many others list companies alphabetically) - Something that reminded of Italy (espresso) - Something easy to spell even with our bad Italian pronunciation (espresso) From here we started combining words until we found a domain available. Overall coming up with good names is fairly easy. Finding an available or reasonably priced .com domain is a nightmare. I'm not 100% opposed to .io domains or other TLD as long as you don't get very strong SEO competitors on the .com that will always outrank you.
Marvin Mändle
@massimocw thanks for sharing. Helpful points, never thought about the argument with the partner portals etc. I really like Ad Expresso. Definitely a name I would remember (Who don't like expresso?!;))

First and last letters of VOice streAM makes “voam”. Makes sense for a product that runs AI workflows (streams) based on voice recordings, right?
Joep van den Bogaert
@marvin_maendle Indeed, that's the main thing. It's short and people don't have other associations with the name (I hope).
Marvin Mändle
@jopie makes sense. Voam is also really simple and good to remember I think.

I used several days on Namelix and actually I found some potential names. However, none of them were really satisfying for me until I came up myself with the name 'Webcurate'. I instantly felt that it check marked all the points I was looking for my brand name. Btw, I'm also launching soon! Just hit the notify me button for your launch. Let's support each other! 😊
Marvin Mändle
@hosseinyazdi never heard of nemelix, thanks for sharing. Looking forward to keep in touch.
Hossein Yazdi
@marvin_maendle Yep Namelix is the best in my opinion! Sure, happy to have connected with you!
Gaurav
I tried a lot of two-word combinations (inspired from Face+book, Git+Hub, You+Tube) for names, but could not find any available .com domain names. After spending days on it, I looked at our tagline: "The story within you" and came up with "Storiny" ("STORy withIN You").
Marvin Mändle
@zignis cool combination. Storiny sounds great!

Fedica used to be Tweepsmap. Then we outgrew Twitter and mapping alone as a social media management Saas. So whats Fedica? It's like a Xerox but really it's a play on Fediverse (the next gen of Social Media) because of two things: 1) we always built novel capabilities first and 2) we're striving to build a community across platforms, like the wonders of the Fediverse promises. :D
Marvin Mändle
@jonwesselink thanks for sharing! Will check out your product, sounds interesting!
Jon Wesselink
@marvin_maendle Hey Thanks Marvin! lmk when you launch :D
Shawn Olds
My co-founder and I both went to West Point. As a cadet everything in your room is issued to you, except for one box you are allowed to keep in an overhead above your closet. In that box you were allowed to keep all the cookies, candies and treats that you could shove in and for a century that has been called a Cadet's Boodle Box. So boodle at West Point is highly sought after, hard to get and very expensive. boodleAI is helping people find more time in their day, time is always sought after, hard to get and very expensive!
Marvin Mändle
@shawn_olds1 thanks for explaining. Cool story behind boodle. And sounds like you help to safe time, will check this!

"Paradigm" because we want to create a "Paradigm Shift" in AI. Similar to "Think Different" by Apple, to show that we're innovative in our approaches and ideology.
Daniel Burns
As our motto says "Test Everything, All the Time" - we wanted "testing" to be ingrained in the minds. So, when they hear TESTIFI (our company's name) it's clear: we're all about software testing.
Marvin Mändle
@dan_burns yes it's 100% clear, I agree. Thanks for sharing!

I'd recommend selecting a name that is: - A mix of easy to remember and meaningful name that catch the essence of what you're trying to accomplish with your business or Product. - Suitable for a global market if your product is intended for worldwide use. - Relevant and evergreen. In our case, we established a couple years ago a design and development agency called Devinweb: The name we came with is based of two words Devin (Dev in) or (Devin) and web: Which reflects our ambition to build great products on top of the web platform !
Marvin Mändle
@abdellah_abbous I totally agree with your points and thanks for explaining the story behind Devinweb!
Francesco D'Alessio
By accident. For Keep Productive, I kept signing off videos like "have a great day and keep productive" so it spiralled from here.
Marvin Mändle
@francescod_ales nice! I think many names in business are built by accident or spontaneously.
Gary Sztajnman
We tried with a first name for a mobile app: HelloHola.app but then pivoted to a webapp for B2B. We decided to focus on our true mission: "Reach the entire world, Translate videos to put it in front of 8 Billion Viewers" So hello8.ai
Marvin Mändle
@garysz cool story! Hello8 is easy to unterstand and also really modern. Like it for a tech company. We also combine our mission with our name. Crewting - Turn isolated remote worker into deeply connected crews
Marvin Mändle
@garysz and good luck for your launch, will follow it!
Wylo - What you love We're a platform that lets brands and people run online communities for their needs and do what they love ;) so there you go.
Marvin Mändle
@senthil99nathan sounds good and the meaning is perfect! Will check Wylo out :)
We played with the names "deco" and "code", since we are a open-source web editor. Btw, we are relaunching our product on April 2nd
Marvin Mändle
@beatrizlramos thanks for explaining and good luck for you relaunch!

Ahoy, fellow product hunters! Choosing a startup name is no small feat, right? Well, for Crewting, the process involved mixing "Crew" and "Meeting" to create a name that truly defines the essence of collaboration. The idea struck me in the middle of a busy workday - probably when my brain was desperately seeking a creative escape from endless spreadsheets. After all, inspiration can strike anytime, anywhere! So, what's the story behind your startup name? Let's share our naming adventures and perhaps inspire others in their quest for the perfect moniker. Cheers to the power of creativity and caffeine-fueled brainstorming sessions!
Marvin Mändle
@thestarkster in my life it's exactly like you are saying. The best ideas come randomly during the day. In the supermarket or during a walk. One of our founders had the idea in the shower and everybody liked it. What is the story behind your startup?
