Ask more clarifying questions. What do they mean by unique? What's their goal/objectives that they want to achieve with the design? Then go from there.

This is too vague. It feels like he doesn't exactly know what he wants. And not specified task leads to poor results.

Definitely ask more questions to dig into what they mean by 'unique'. Is it a unique visual style? Unique functionality? Uniquely tailored to their brand? Once you nail down their specific goals, you can suggest design directions that will help them stand out, like bold colors, unconventional layouts, interactive elements, or tightly integrating their brand voice. The key is understanding the 'why' behind their request.

When someone says they want something unique, I usually ask about their personal story or hobbies. Maybe incorporate elements that reflect their interests, like travel maps if they love exploring, or custom illustrations of pets. Adding unexpected textures or vintage finds also makes a design stand out in a special way.

I think we need to know our clients better. Like what's their preferences or their principles. It's bit tricky but we usually I would learn about them while we're discussing about the project.

I'd propose using texture or gradients that aren't commonly seen in their industry.

I suggest Using 3D or layered visuals could create depth and uniqueness in their design.
