We did this largely bootstrapped up until recently. 1. I spent the last 2.5 years building a community that enjoys hearing and talking about AI tools and software 2. From the moment I had the idea, we practiced build in public. This allowed the community to tell us what they wanted. I shared every step along the way to tell the story and take people along the ride. 3. Before we launched, we set up a landing page to capture emails in order to get early access and a discount. This gained us ~11,000 emails 4. On launch day, we had built up so much hype, we instantly generated signups and sales 5. I brought my CFO, and business partner from SocialtyPro, so I could make sure all of the nuances of incorporating, having financials, and planning in order. 6. Then I partnered CTO with an AI and product management background, so we built the product the right way, which was user-first! 7. With my CTO’s help, we built a robust user interview process, where I reach out to new sign-ups and people who leave us to better understand how we serve them. We try to understand their problems deeply, and solve them through our features. 8. About a month after launching we created an affiliate program. This is still ~a quarter of our monthly revenue. 9. We talk to users daily. We want to hear brutally honest feedback so that we can improve upon it! And we take everyone’s opinions into account. 10. For example, people expressed how they had to talk to people in their native language otherwise they wouldn’t be interested. So we embodied that by offering multiple languages in our scripts and in the way our avatars speak. 11. We integrate the feedback into the product requirement documents (PRDs) we create and the Figma mock-ups and prototypes we create. Which allows us to get thorough internal and external feedback. 12. Our developers made the astute suggestion to use Retool for our admin dashboard rather than build our own to save us time and allow us to focus on solving problems for our users, so our product keeps increasing its value. 13. They also advised and setup Segment.io to log all our data, so we can better understand actual usage while allowing us to better craft our marketing and advertising in the future. 14. Without having amazing developers, product managers and designers, marketing is pointless. 15. That team was supercharged by our operations team who helps us maintain a great culture. They keep everyone involved, informed, and engaged. Our staff has told me this job has been life changing for them! 16. From there, we keep our data analysis & science continually on the roadmap, as we keep better understanding our users, we build better data dashboards on Jupyter Notebooks and Tableau. In fact, we’re currently building out a more robust data warehouse. 17. We added Syllaby on 160+ ai tools and software directories. These are great for backlinks, website traffic, and conversions. 18. We figured out advertising and went all in across Google, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok
