Hi everyone! I'd love to know where you struggle the most when communicating at work. Is it pitching and convincing people of your ideas or providing feedback to others? Or do you find it challenging to resolve conflict?
I'll start! For me, it's convincing others of my ideas. Why? There's often such an information overload that I find it hard to know what will convince each person.
What do you find most challenging & how do you tackle it?

slow feedback loop- unless you're a big tech and have 10,000+ people you don't need to many hurdles. slow moving people is a red flag for a startup.

@theankurtyagi I'm unsure what you mean. Are you working in a startup?

Honest feedback: both giving and accepting π
@daria_ofitserova Hi Daria! Thanks for sharing. What is it about giving feedback that you find challenging? & what do you struggle with when you receive honest feedback? Is hearing it? Or knowing what to do with it and how to tackle it etc?

Oh, the classic struggle of convincing others of my ideas feels like trying to teach coding to a goldfish - quite the challenge! How about you? What's your communication hurdle at work and how do you handle it?
@thestarkster Exactly! For me it's convincing others - sometimes ideas land, and other times they don't.
1) When others talk, I struggle with listening to (what they need, not what they say to me) I sense it is difficult to shut down my internal thinking. Therefore, I missed what I should have learned from what was communicated.
2) Repeating what the person said and not judging or filtering what I think I heard.
3) I learned my first thoughts were (Arrogant, Prideful, Selfishness, and Independence). I would prefer that my internal dialogue focus on giving, Listening, Loving, and Serving others.
@brian_hill_bossmobility_ Hello Brian!! So lovely to hear from you on Product Hunt! β€οΈ Listening skills are a real art aren't they? I must admit, I struggle also (it's ADHD! There's a big internal dialogue going on which sounds similar to what you describe) but as a coach, you must have to work hard not to try to "solve" but rather to "listen" and reflect as you say.
What techniques do you use to keep yourself on track?
Staying connected with remote teams is tough. Time zone differences and lack of face-to-face interaction can make it challenging to build rapport and trust.
@eugenie_thompson I know the challenges of working with remote teams in multiple timezones well! What timezones are you working across? & how do you manage your comms and team connections currently? Do you have virtual team bonding sessions, or team celebrations virtually etc?
struggle with giving clear feedback. Itβs hard to be specific without sounding too harsh or confusing.
@peter_victor It's challenging isn't it? How do you manage giving feedback currently? Do you change your approach for different team members etc?
Convincing others of my ideas is tough for me too. I often have to simplify things and present data to make my case stronger.
@addau_rabiu1 Do you find most people you're working with prefer data to be convinced about ideas? Or are there others you're working with that you convince using other methods?
I have a hard time keeping everyone on the same page. There are often miscommunications and confusion about tasks.
@safina_seth Yes, that's tough, isn't it? Is it the number of people in your meetings that makes it a real struggle for you? Or is it the setting eg virtual calls, or face to face etc?
I struggle with making my written communication summary. I tend to over-explain things and end up with long emails.
@samantha_den Me too! I have the same battle. I've started using Claude AI to reword my long-winded comms - it's so good (I don't work for Claude, just a big fan!) are you finding yourself adapting your emails for different team members, or how do review them before you send them?
