What questions do you have about A.I. that you're too embarrassed to ask?
Hi all. Sarah here, Head of Content @ Product Hunt. I'm starting up a new article series in our AI newsletter, Deeper Learning, called Ask Kitty. It's a place where you can ask the questions you've been wondering about A.I. but have been too shy to ask.
Why? One thing I've learned about A.I. is that a lot of people in tech assume you know a lot of things, and very few people actually know the things (or know them in-depth enough to explain them simply). Sometimes this dynamic prevents us from asking questions. And asking questions is one of the best ways to reduce our knowledge gap.
And yes, you could ask ChatGPT, but based on my experience you're unlikely to get the full context you need. Not only will I work to answer your questions, I'll work to find the right people to help me answer them! So ask away!

What do you think it will be the hybrid working scenario for designers, marketeers and developers when AI starts doing >50% of their work in 5years?
Not embrassing, but I am genuinely curious about the use of machine learning (aka A.I) in the HR market.
Right now the Jobs market is seemingly awful. World-wide as applicants are using LLMs to write their cover letters and 'optimize' their resumes to get past automate applicant sorting systems, while employers are employing the use of LLMs and 'machine learning' in their process of reviewing these resumes and 'qualifying' candidates, while at the same time cutting jobs with the expectation of increases as the current employees who make it are expected to use "A.I" to boost productivity.
At this point it is computers and talking to computers about jobs without humans actually meeting... so, and excuse my language here, but what the fuck are we doing here? It's a robotic process on both sides resulting in a race to the bottom.
So, the question: Is this actually a productive use of this technology? Where does this go from here? Progress for the sake of 'progress' in this context is making the world worse, not better.
@joseph_natoli This is a good question. I'd love to talk to some actual HR professionals using AI and see their honest accounts on it. As a content creator, I see AI's limitations, but its hard to see them across other professions. Will look into this.

Great question, Sarah! How would you explain your AI tool to someone who isn't well-versed with AI technologies, or someone that's not even willing to explore the world of AI due to fear, lack of understanding, etc.?
That's my issue, getting people to understand the why, what, how etc. of our tool (Narrato) which is AI-powered.
Sorry to say this but am I too behind when I say I'm not using any AI tool daily to boost my productivity? Sorry guys.
My question is: how AI startups have popped up as tons once Data Science and Machine Learning require a lot of expensive professionals?
I think the biggest questions are around the ethical side of things when it comes to AI but also in terms of the actual threat to humanity AI may present in the future. The current example of deep fakes being used in India during the pre-election campaign is terrifying. How big is the threat to true democracy and freedom of speech that AI may potentially pose?

I sometimes wonder whether AI truly ever "understands" us. I believe there's a difference between (1) actually understanding our questions and providing relevant, thoughtful answers, and (2) answering our questions with the most probable answer that would satisfy our inquiry. I feel that ChatGPT (particularly) sometimes acts like that person who only agrees with what you're saying, and tells you what you want to hear. How does AI's ability to learn and understand actually work?

What's the math underneath LLMs? How do those vector operations work? What makes AI models hallucinate?
@josej30 Ty! This is going on the list. And we're working on some articles now about how hallucinations are being addressed (and how even those fixes are falling short). But I, for one, can definitely better understand why hallucinations happen at all. And on the emath!

We are going to add cool AI features for our beta and planning to implement our AI features deeply engaged with the Product Hunt community. Is it appropriate to start discussion here?
My biggest question is: Will we end up with an echo chamber?
Hear me out:
We built (LLMs) with internet data
Now we use them to a-masse generate more data
We continue to train our LLMs on the new internet data
Now we do this loop for a couple of years
What happens next? Will we end up with AI and available knowledge that echoes what's been said over and over?
Oh and I am curious: in this scenario, do we end up with all models training on each others data and eventually ending up with only the "weights" in each parameter to be the differentiating factor?
I think the one question folks are afraid to ask is about how to handle potential job losses and inequality in access to technology. AI will automate a lot of tasks and create efficiency, but will the benefits of that revolution be distributed evenly and fairly.
Where does one draw the line dividing the tasks that are appropriate for automation via API and those that really demand a human's touch?
@carterparks I like this topic! I think it would be interesting to hear how answers might differ from product people to customer support to A.I. engineers.
@carterparks I come with the perspective as a professional artist, so this question is a frequent point of discussion for me. The way i see it; the question is; do you care if it has a human touch? for example, you go to an art gallery and see a piece of art, do you care if it was created by a human? perhaps, because we feel a human connection. When you pick up a package of cornflakes or fruit loops do you really care if the artwork has been touched by a human? we're surrounded every day by artwork, from simple package designs to cars, clothing etc, how much do we really care about the human touch? or just that it visually looks appealing? Here's the thing about AI, while the concept is definitely abstract, it really understands by brute force, what visually works and looks appealing, so if thats the goal, then why not offset that to an automated system where speed and cost are more important than value? Design and art are two different things, design has a purpose, to generate money, art has a purpose; to express an idea or story. So how do you decide human over API? well, you just simply decide whats more important to you :)
When does an AI reply change, and how much data is necessary for this to happen? For example, great AI tools are used for market research, but how soon will changes be reflected in the responses generated by AI?
It's funny but I feel like most people aren't afraid to ask AI anything. We're building a relationship AI app, and couples talk to Maia about everything under the sun relationship-related. Oftentimes the subjects that seem off the table with humans, like sex and intimacy issues or finances, are completely not taboo with AI. It's awesome!!!
