What’s the difference between UI and UX design? Which one do you think is more important?

Hi Rahul, I'm a senior UX/UI designer and I confidently believe that UX and UI are not the same but complement each other. The most important of the two is UX because it rules and determines how the product should feel and behave to satisfy the user's needs and expectations. I have lost count of the number of times that a company hires UX designers but only are interested in the UI side. Also, I see really pretty designs on dribbble but these don't work well in real life and are only an empty shell.
And this is a mistake, if someone tells you that they do UX, but they don't talk with users and customers, they are not doing any type of UX. UX is mandatory for success because can help lower the risk of failure. Imagine you are planning to implement a new feature, what will happen if no one uses it?
Imagine the savings on time, money, and effort If you can catch this way before even in the design phase vs if you catch it when is already implemented in code.
DO NOT SKIP UX.

UI (User Interface) design focuses on the visual elements and aesthetics of a product, such as buttons and layout, while UX (User Experience) design encompasses the overall journey and interaction a user has with the product, addressing functionality and usability. Both are crucial, but many argue that UX is more important as it lays the foundation for a positive user experience, which UI then enhances through visual appeal
I always notice a bad UX more than a bad UI. For me, it's the experience that matters most.
It is hard to pick one.
Do you think a great UI can make up for weak UX or is it always the other way around?
For me, UX is like the blueprint and UI is the paint job. You need both, but a solid blueprint makes all the difference.
UI is about how it looks, while UX is about how it works. Both are equally important to me.
UI focuses on visual like buttons and layouts. UX is about the overall user experience and journey. I think UX edges out because a pretty design is pointless if it doesn't work well
For me, UX is the foundation, and UI is the cherry on top. You need both, but UX has the bigger impact long-term.
