Hey there, the amazing PH community! 👋 I'm launching Lunatask, an all-in-one privacy-focused task manager, habit and mood tracker, and pomodoro timer 🙇‍♂️ Two years ago I finally decided to go on a journey to build a perfect ADHD-friendly personal productivity app for myself. The previous app I used for years felt often overwhelming and without proper tools for prioritization when there was a lot on my plate. In my task list for Today, my personal and work tasks were mixed causing distractions at work. And it did just one thing, requiring me to have another complementary app for stuff like a pomodoro timer or tracking habits. Last year, I finally launched the beta of Lunatask so everyone can play with it and now it's time to share it with all of you 🙌 There are new features landing in Lunatask every month, check our public roadmap or follow Lunatask on Twitter. Everyone is different so there are never enough personal productivity tools. Tell me, what do you like, what do you miss, what can I improve? Awesome to see an all-in-one tool in this area, I know many people (including myself) are getting fatigued by the number of tools and apps they use and would love to consolidate in one tool. One question, are notes coming as well in the future?

@laur_science Yes, I think that's one of the next steps. Lunatask already has a powerful custom-built Markdown editor for task notes. There are two common themes I hear about - a journal or diary (timeline of notes attached to dates, possibly connected with habit/mood tracker) and notebooks (more traditional collections of notes). I think there's a space for supporting both use cases. Definitely, something to be explored soon!

@yoav_ganbar Thanks for the clarification, Yoav! Eventually yes, but at this point, we focus on perfecting the experience on the desktop first. When we figure out what the experience and feature set should be for Lunatask, then we can figure out how to bring it to mobile platforms as well. Right now, the product is half-done so we try not to split the focus too much with the limited resources we have. I understand this can be partially solved with a web app, but mobile platforms deserve better, so we target desktop-heavy users first while we figure what is the best strategy going forward ⭐️

@stas_voronov Hi Stas, thank you, I appreciate it ❤️ There are a lot of similar apps on the market so it needs all those features (and more) if anyone should pick Lunatask over Todoist or TickTick. There is a long way to go 💪 Currently, the focus is to figure out the experience and make it distinct on the desktop first. Mobile apps can be added but at this point in time it'd slow down the development significantly if everything would need to be built twice. Unfortunately, there are very few hands (two hands) working on Lunatask but they work hard 🙌

VERY cool! I've been tracking my habits and moods on paper for years (?!) now and it has been a gamechanger for me. Very bold and forward-thinking of you to incorporate both in a productivity tool that can be used for work. Our lives are almost seamless now. It makes so much sense to have one productivity tool for both work and your personal life, and it makes sense to track our moods and feelings when at work (something that was traditionally taboo!). Looks like it has been very well designed and I love the idea voting portal!

I discovered Lunatask after watching Franscesco's video, very promissing! What made me try it in particular is the end-to-end encryption approach. Could you tell us more about it: how it works, encryption protocole used, where are the keys, who owns the servers, etc... Thank you!

@relaxdmj Hi there, I appreciate your curiosity. Lunatask encrypts all use entered input like task names and notes, area, habit and habit group names etc. before they are sent to the server using XSalsa20 with Curve25519, and Poly1305 for signature verification. Per account private key needed to decrypt the data is derived on sign-in from your master password using argon2id and never leaves your machine, we don't store the private key nor your master password remotely. The servers are owned by me personally. There also multiple third-party WAF in front detecting and blocking attackers on-the-fly when they see someone trying something. This is provided by Cloudflare and Sqreen. I hope this answers your question. Let me know if I should go deeper or clarify something.

@relaxdmj To put it simply, attacking Lunatask infrastructure is impractical. To be able to steal user data you'd need to find a vulnerability in our servers, which will be tricky. The API has a very little surface area and any of the WAF will immediately block you when you try something unusual like a security scan. Even in unlikely case if you somehow manage to get unnoticed by any WAF, find an actual vulnerability and steal the data in the database, you will need to dedicate large resources and to brute-force guess user's password to decrypt user data, that might take years of compute time and a lot of memory because trying just one password through argon2 is very expensive. And even if you're successful because the user chose an easy-to-guess password, you have to go through the process again for a different account as private keys are per account. Impractical, to say the least.

@mikekreeki Thank you for this detailed and comprehensive answer. Security and Privacy in productivity apps are so rare those days, keep the good work! I think I red servers in the US (maybe on Twitter), where you referring to your servers or Cloudflare and Sqreen? Is Lunatask Open Source?

@relax_dmj No worries, I'm all for transparency. Though I'm from Europe, Lunatask runs from AWS US East datacenter (N. Virginia) for convenience as most users come from US. All requests go through Cloudflare and I imagine Cloudflare picking their closest location between the end-user and Lunatask server. Sqreen runs in-app on our server so there's no communication with Sqreen servers.

The distraction-free UI is one of the goals, that is why many pieces of the functionality are hidden in the right-click menus 🙌 For feedback, the best way would be to write it down and send it to contact@lunatask.app, we can schedule a Zoom call afterwards if needed as well, but probably later next week. There're will be new version of Lunatask released tomorrow so I'm busy preparing the communications and new support articles. I'm curious to hear your feedback! 🙇‍♂️
