General Task is the best way to take control of your workday. Prioritize your work using AI, integrate with your team’s task managers, see your pull requests, take notes, and plan your day with your calendar, all in one place.
I used General Task in their beta and found it a great product, but I wasn't ready for it. Today I had the exact use case of a product like General Task, so I went to log back into my account and learned they're only providing the app as a self-hosted open-source project. I'm a little bummed.
General Task provided a great interfacing layer between my task sources (e.g., Linear) and my calendar (which could also be considered a task source). This made planning my day super easy since tasks beg to be shaped into a block of time. If a task isn't scheduled for a block of time, and only lives as a due date, it's easy to ignore it. General Task made that solid connection.
Best wishes to the team. If they ever bring back a hosted version and I still haven't filled the gap their product fit, then I'll be excited. It will also be interesting to see what else this team might bring to market.
Really like the first few minutes with GT. 4 Column view works really well for me as I get an overview of my tasks and their progress without moving much within the app.
In the few days to come I Will be actively using this for my daily work to see how far the features available help me but so far I am liking it.
I only used this app for about a week, but it was awesome while it lasted. Only reason I stopped is because my team stopped using Linear and transitioned to Asana which lacked an integration.

Whoa, this looks really powerful and brings a lot of useful functionality into one platform. Grats on the launch! 🎉 Loving the UI simplicity as well. What sort of integrations do you have in store here (and are there any at the moment)?
@saasdesigner Thanks so much for the kind words Bren! We have integrations for Slack, Google calendar, Github and Linear currently, but will likely add JIRA and Asana soon. Are there any you're looking for specifically?
@saasdesigner Thanks for the feedback Bren! Are there any integrations you'd like to see in the future? As of right now, we have JIRA and Asana in the works.
Wow, the focus mode + smart prioritise is really what I was looking for without knowing it in a task manager! Would it be possible to support Discord? Also, it would be nice to automatically group tasks by specific label(s) and/or Linear workspace! That would avoid doing it by hand for each issue. Congratulations for the launch!
@sirius_nottin Thanks Sirius! This is the first time I've heard someone suggest Discord, but I think its an interesting idea! What would your use-case look like for that?
@sirius_nottin Thanks so much Sirius for the kind words and for the helpful feedback!

@julian_n_christensen Just to be able to add tasks easily without having to switch contexts and copy/paste ;) Hehe, btw did anyone suggest to support Height.app?^^
@generaltask_john Yeah! With a widget that allows you to easily "Add" on your phone, General Task would also be an excellent tool for quickly capturing ideas. With it, you could save things like "Add the new blue logo to Behance" "Check the new HTML tutorial" or maybe "Mix the layers of the last PSD with the new cover" while you're busy with something else. Many ideas come up when you least expect them, and with General Task you could save them to organize them better at another time.
I think your product is amazing and I'd love to try it, but point number 7.2 in your TOS would violate our corporate security protocols. Maybe offer a premium version where you guys don't get to use any of our content?

I’m John Reinstra, Co-Founder and CEO of General Task. Previously, I was an early engineer at Robinhood. While I was there, I watched the company grow from 75 people to over 3,000, and as that happened, I saw the company become far less efficient. Towards the end of my tenure, I was spending hours every day triaging the endless emails, messages, tasks and alerts that all required my attention, while also constantly being blocked by others due to poor prioritization. This made me feel (and act) much less productive on a daily basis. I realized things didn’t have to be this way, and started General Task to solve this problem.
I built a team of five engineers (ex Meta, Robinhood, Amazon) and two designers (ex Netflix, Atlassian) and we got to work on a solution. We’re extremely excited to announce the launch of General Task, a new way to plan your workday.
Our mission is to improve the productivity of all knowledge workers. Instead of spending hours triaging manually, prioritize your work using AI, integrate with your team’s task manager, see your pull requests, take notes, and plan your day with your calendar, all in one place.
Our initial integrations support primarily the use-cases of startup employees. We integrate with many of the tools you use in your workday. Namely, Linear, Google Calendar, Slack, and Github. We have many more integrations on the way, including JIRA and Asana coming soon.
General Task was built from the ground up with the help of extensive user research and feedback. So please let us know how you like it and what you’d like to see in the app in the future!
Cool project! I noticed that the site year is still 2022. Also, I think the Terms and Conditions primer is hard to read. Specifically, the font is short and thin. I suggest something like Source Sans Pro? Nonetheless, good job and congrats!
@lunchplus Awesome! Thank you for the suggestions, we're already working on fixes for some of them! Let us know if you have any more feedback after using the app for a little longer.
@lunchplus Thanks so much Lloyd for kind words and the helpful feedback!

Always a bit weird when a first interaction with a company is an all caps TOS that you can never sue them or take part in a class action suit against them. Gonna pass on that opportunity.
@chriserickson Thanks for the feedback. While most companies hide clauses like this in their TOS, we want to be transparent with our users, which is why we work to make you aware of important parts of our TOS. You can easily opt out of the binding arbitration by following the instructions outlined in the TOS.
