I read that since the company that made Inyo closed, the ?makers decided to open-source all of it and @yannick_mthy continues paying for hosting etc. to keep it running...
First of all, I'm sorry the company closed. It's evident that your poured a lot of hard work into making Inyo and good, useful product. I find open-sourcing it and continuing to maintain it extremely generous and am glad that I still have the chance to use it.
Here are some observations in no particular order (and definitely not a full review or anything, just some things I felt like pointing out):
Bad
• It seems the site is a bit confused regarding which language to use when (and it often mixes English and French in the same page) but that's not a deal-breaker.
• A lot of the content has not been translated from French. Most importantly the video tutorial, help pages, terms of service and some field labels.
• Attempting to connect my Google Calendar, when prompted, results in the following error message: "Sign in with Google temporarily disabled for this app. This app has not been verified yet by Google in order to use Google Sign In."
• Task duration defaults to "2,541666666666667 h" for some reason... and because the field is relatively small, it looks like "6667 h"
• Not possible to add multiple contacts to the same company/client
Good
• The "Assistant" can be named and that's the name the client supposedly sees in the emails coming from it
• Client doesn't need an account to see the progress
• Depending on how many tasks you schedule on each day and how long you estimate each task will take, the software lets you know how many work hours are available that day
• you can choose your work hours, although I'm not sure how that ties into the rest of the features; it's a good thing not to try to force everyone into the same mold
In short it's a concept similar to that of Basecamp but specifically tailored for freelancers. It seems like a good way to schedule your day (and it helps you not to overbook yourself), keep track of projects and easily give clients a "window" to your workplace/what you've been up to, without oversharing.
I like it! Not sure if I'll continue using it and whether everything actually still works, but I salute the ?makers for their hard work and the well-thought out concept. Inyo is/was a fresh approach to managing freelance work and I think it succeeds in being pleasant (maybe even fun to use) and feel personalized.
