Yesterday, OpenBot launched on Product Hunt and finished as the #2 Product of the Day with 350 upvotes.
Honestly, we didn t know what to expect. Seeing so many people support OpenBot, test the product, ask questions, and share honest feedback meant a lot to our entire team.
Thank you to everyone who:
- upvoted and commented,
- shared our launch,
- downloaded and tested OpenBot,
- reported bugs,
- or told us what we should build next.
The ranking is exciting, but the most valuable part was seeing that other people share our vision: AI should move beyond isolated chats toward teams of specialized agents that can work together.
We re now going through every comment and piece of feedback from the launch. Some of it has already influenced what we want to improve next.
This launch was not the finish line. It was the beginning of the next stage for OpenBot.
Thank you again for making this launch special. We re just getting started.
- Kamil and the OpenBot team
Hey Kamil, what was the biggest challenge or discovery you had when building OpenBot? It could be about anything, from open sourcing the app to coordinating the agents. Congrats on the launch today!
@sara_ford_goog Interesting question - thanks!
I can cover only non-technical topics, but I have 2:
1. Before shipping it, we didn’t know that it’d be a great tool for non-AI native people. The difference in UX is simple, but this is the first tool my mom uses. She has a bot for cooking, a bot for travelling, and she actually uses them.
2. Same with automations. I wasn’t sure it’d be a great use case, but a UX where 1 bot is designed to do 1 particular job helps in building automations brick by brick.
@kamil_cyrek Thanks great that your Mom uses them! Thanks for sharing your insights. Good luck with the launch!
Can I send tasks remotely from my phone? Check in on progress?
@thatmattgardner Yes! That's the main reason we've created mobile version of OpenBot
@kamil_cyrek That is great, In my new workshop I'm keeping 2 boxes just for this. One for day job and one for my own stuff, but don't want them to need monitors. Just everything run via agent via the phone.
@thatmattgardner Sounds interesting, would love to see how it works
@kamil_cyrek Need android beta haha.
How do you keep up with the changing tools? Seems like there are a lot of things out there in terms of models, self-hosting, etc.
@cloudalchemist We've been in crypto for 4 years before building OpenBot, so working in a fast paced space isn't new to us. We've built the app in a way, that allows us, to update it fast. In the last 1.5 month, we've deliver 67 version/updates
Wow, that's a great timing because I was actually wondering if there's an open source or local-first alternative to Grok Bot. I am kind of skeptical of any AI assistant on cloud because of the privacy concerns.
@krutiparekh16 Totally understand the privacy concern. That’s why OpenBot supports local models through Ollama and LM Studio, when you use one, your prompts stay on your machine instead of going to a cloud AI provider.
I work on outbound systems where different agents often need different context and jobs. The separate workspace + queue model caught my attention. can one agent hand a task to another while preserving the first agent’s context?
@sagar_deore Yes. Agents keep their own threads and workspaces, and can hand off tasks via messages or a shared channel. In a channel, the next agent can see the shared discussion; their private thread context stays separate
@ankur_jaiswal5 Yes, product analytics are enabled by default in the iOS app, but you can turn them off under Settings -> General -> Privacy.
@rukhsar_amjad Not currently, an agent’s instructions are shared with the team, so changing them affects everyone. For separate instructions, you’d need to use separate agents.
