How many users does Product Hunt have?

@alanhamlett That was the question. 🤷 If the question was framed sans bots and deleted accounts and or inactive accounts. I would say, only PH knows. The best estimate from outside would be to use these web traffic counter services.

@alanhamlett I think the conclusion and analysis is speculative. But a great expose non the less. Im not a fan of the current war against PH. If you can't be innovative then your product won't get featured. Simple as that. This is by design to ward off the bot armies. If you remove the curation all hell break loose, as it was in the months before moderation was implemented. As for the bots. I think the PH team is letting them live on the platform for now. they could easily remove them with for instance the pattern you used as a detector. But in doing so, overnight a new breed would surface that wouldn't be as detectable. AS it is now, ph can at least behind the scene kick out launches that were clearly gamed. But it's also less of a problem now that we only have 10-20 launches a day. these launches are mostly by serious makers that don't conduct in bot activity. some shady makers go through the curation and cheat. but that is detected, and next time they launch in their name. guess what. they won't be featured, because their due dil won't check out. as we move forward. this due dil will become more strict, and the algos for detecting bots will improve. So it's a transitory issue that will be less relevant soon enough. Hang in there makers 💪

@fabian_maume, That's a good answer ;-) I estimate that there are at least 600k active users on productHunt. But I reckon there are many more, maybe a few million.

@fabian_maume @sfali789 @abdalyousef you're close! It's around 500k but not counting lurkers and still some of those might be automated bot accounts

@abdalyousef that's just the number of signups, but they get thousands of fake signups per day that ultimately are deleted so that number doesn't tell you the total number of real signups.
