Hi Product Hunt! I’m a PM on Dropbox Paper. Dropbox Paper is a way to organize your team’s knowledge in a single place. With the iOS and Android apps, you can now create, read, or make edits to Paper docs, see all your notifications in a single place, and quickly read and reply to comments. We love to hear your feedback and answer any questions you have!

@christinacaci When will Dropbox Paper be better integrated into Dropbox? The current firewalling between Paper docs and other docs is a pain.
Nathan Baschez
@christinacaci Yes! Excited for this. The web version is awesome and we've been using it at https://hardbound.co to create our stories for the past couple months. Been eagerly awaiting a native mobile version.

Hey @christinacaci I absolutely love Dropbox Paper. Can you please share a bit more about the future of Paper – better organisation, integrations, native app?
Christina Cacioppo
@nbashaw can't wait to hear how you all find it!
Ben Thompson
@christinacaci awesome, very excited about this. Paper is critical to our workflow—everyone in the company collaborates there. Does this app address offline access? kudos to you and @iandiola and all on the team working on this

Here is how Dropbox Paper looks like on mobile 📱

Dropbox Paper could really win over Evernote, just a native Mac app is still missing 😉
Christina Cacioppo
@skreutzb hear you on that – it's something many of us on the team would like too. (we live out of Paper as we're building Paper.)
Ben Thompson
+1 @skreutzb it has already won for us. now it's just a matter of quality of life upgrades like you mentioned
kennethchen
@skreutzb There are "easier" ways to do this. Slack's MacOS app is an example of an alternative approach to a native app.
Sebastian Kreutzberger
@kennethchen a native Paper app should feel as fast as Pages I think. Rich-text editing quickly feels sluggish if not done really native. That's what keeps Google Docs from replacing MS Word or Apple Pages. Performance is king when working on text.
kennethchen
@skreutzb I wasn't arguing that using a MacGap or Electron approach would meet or exceed the performance of a native app. Even well funded organizations who care about the user experience like Slack can decide it's an acceptable trade off given all their priorities and business goals.

This will overtake evernote
Ruurd Pels
@seth_avinash LOL. Can it connect to your scanner? Does it OCR the pictures of your documents? Can it index PDF documents so you can search them?

Hi PH! I'm Ian and I work on the Paper team. We've been working hard on mobile apps for Dropbox Paper; it's a super early beta, and we'd love to hear your feedback!
Ryan Hoover
Interesting to see Dropbox continue to invest in document collaboration. Two days ago Quip announced it's being acquired by Salesforce for a rumored $750m.
Jason Briscoe
I couldn't fully take advantage of Paper until it hit mobile - alas, I couldn't be more thrilled. I've been using Evernote for years now, and it's worked just fine, but hasn't seemed to evolve much - nor has the look or feel. Stoked Dropbox!
Joseph Callaars
I love Dropbox, I love Paper, I definitely hope that you keep it as I use it a lot!
Joseph Callaars
However... I just found out that I cannot install it through Google Play in the UK?
Christina Cacioppo
@bcallaars hi! we're still working on app availability in the EU, and we're looking forward to an EU release in the coming months. (#nobrexit)
Paul-Henri Laugier
@christinacaci @bcallaars Super weird position, been using the web version as a French beta tester with no problems at all, so I'm a bit puzzled to see this! Hope you'll have enough leeway to explain this decision. Thanks!
Arush
@christinacaci love Paper but the markdown support needs to improve, i cannot convince my engineers to use it. steps to repro: 1. write doc in Paper and export to md 2. save md doc in github repo and view on github.com or 1. write any md doc 2. copy/paste into Paper none of these scenarios work, and i end up having to reformat the whole doc every time. the worst support is around code blocks and inline code snippets. IMO if you fix this Paper will be by far the best place to collaborate on engineering spec docs. currently there is no solution for this. Also loved the ALT+UP-ARROW and ALT+DOWN-ARROW to move a whole line of text above/below the previous/next line - this used to be a shortcut in hackpad and i miss it dearly
Christina Cacioppo
@arush hey Arush, thanks for letting us know. there's a few parts of Paper we don't markdown-ize (e.g. tables, doc links) but it sounds like you're running into more than just those problems. could you email me an example markdown file w which you're having trouble? ccacioppo@dropbox.com on the up/down arrow keys: this is legit my favorite keyboard shortcut, i think. it's now ctrl + cmd + [arrow key] (it'll only take a day or so to remap your fingers i promise .. )
Arush
@christinacaci thanks! I'll send you the files. It is not around tables not links
Arush
@christinacaci getting mailbox failure on your email address above
Christina Cacioppo
@arush an error or just a vacation auto-responder? i just tried emailing myself at that address, from another account, and it arrived fine. i couldn't find your message in my inbox (from:arush in:all) though.

Hello @christinacaci @ianmendiola @drewhouston (especially!) @igorkofman and rest of the makers/team -- just noticed that word count has a special count for emoji. Super cute! (as an aside, I often wish copy/paste would ascii-fy emoji). Looking forward to the mobile app catching up to the browser site when it comes to editing (tables, emoji, etc.). Congratulations on the release!
