I have this feature on my HTC One M8 and I love it, makes it so much easier to handle the phone while trying to squeeze a group into that picture. Glad to see it being implemented for the iPhone as well (and I specially like the audio feedback feature since you would be taking a picture using the rear camera).
But you still have to wing-it to make sure everyone fits into the screen, interesting that your approach will give you feedback once everyone is in the pic. I'll have to try it out with an iDevice =)
