Hey Product Hunters π
I'm Alan, the maker of WakaTime. After years of independent contracting and filling out invoices, forgetting how much time I worked, and a general headache, I thought there must be a better way. That's why I built WakaTime Invoicing.
WakaTime Invoicing is an automatic time tracking app that knows what you worked on and for how long, then fills out your PDF invoices automatically.
π» Knows what you worked on
β° Knows how long you worked
π Automatically creates PDF invoices containing your projects and hours
Let WakaTime run in the background and when it's time to bill, your invoice is generated for you. I'd love to hear your feedback and hope you'll check it out!

Really nice to see Wakatime releasing another product. One question though: Since working on a coding project doesn't necessarily mean actual coding about 50% of the time, with research, debugging, meeting, etc, does the product take that into account? Otherwise we would be bill only for time coding instead of these other crucial work.

@jean_gerard_bousiquot This is an absolutely valid concern. We spend more time doing research and imagining/thinking scenarios than the actual coding.
@jean_gerard_bousiquot great question!
First, you can always add or edit line items on your invoice.
For meetings, try out our Google Calendar integration:
https://wakatime.com/integrations
Then increase your keystroke timeout preference:
https://wakatime.com/faq#timeout
Together these two normally cover all billable hours. I've also written a blog post on the same topic if you're interested:

Finally, with over 79 plugins already, there's a good chance we can add support for any tools you're using.
Congratulations on the launch of Invoicing from code stats!
However, this way of counting may have loopholes that bring two results: one, unreasonable estimation of programmers' output, and two, some βcleverβ programmers can easily exploit this loophole.
What do you think? @alanhamlett
@oe_zheng they can always put whatever hours they want on their invoice... they can even edit their WakaTime invoice and double or triple the hours before sending it. That's between the programmer and their client. The main benefit of WakaTime is helping the contractor keep track of their hours and remember to bill for all the time they worked, so the programmer is the one using WakaTime and their client never needs to know where the PDF was created.
Must have for all freelancers! Congratulations on the launch! How do you resolve the privacy issues? Invoices contain some pretty important private info
@alternative_potato thank you! We keep the invoice info private only to you, unless you download the PDF and send it to your client of course π

Congratulations! I've been using Wakatime in the past. This new feature is definitely a must for freelancers! It would be more professional and credible if the bill could be sent directly from Wakatime.
Congratulations on the launch of Invoicing from code stats! I'm so excited to experience how much easier it will make managing my projects and hours!

Very Cool. Some clients really love to know in detail what we work on. Wonder if its possible to put commit messages as a "Task" in the invoice. I find that it does take a while to fill go back and fill up the invoice details (Invoice-driven developement). Especially since we almost always forget what we coded just few days ago.
Congratulations on launching this great new product! It looks like an awesome way to simplify invoicing and save time. What inspired you to create this?
