This isn't a surprising move, but end of the day, teachers will have to pick between the cheaper Chromebooks and a more expensive Apple device. I hope that Apple launches initiatives to discount devices for schools overwhelmingly attended by low-income students - experience with Apple devices is as close to a job requirement as possible for many high-paying jobs in tech, and letting ~$100 determine a student's ability to learn seems shortsighted.

I love the Apple Pencil support. Saved me from buying an iPad Pro. This wasn’t over kill seeing I have a MacBook & IPhone plus. Love it.
