HabitCat is a simple app to pick up habits and keep track of your success. Create your habit, set a weekly goal and mark your progress each day. Available for free on Android and iOS.
@satyapriya_krishna We don’t make money from the app. Currently, we just want to share what we created and see if it’s interesting for users. Monetarizing the app might be a plan for the future but is not on our mind at the moment.
Hey there,
@dgellow and I created our habit tracker HabitCat. After using habit trackers myself for about a year I decided that it’s time to create my own. Personally, I wasn't much convinced by constant reminders and motivating push messages and instead wanted a focus on simplicity.
Our main goal was finding the balance between gamification and long-term development of habits. Gamification does motivate me but only as long as I can keep my streak, once I lose it, I also lose my motivation to start again. Therefore, we use weekly goals that are challenging but don't require you to be successful every single day.
We are looking for users who are willing to give us their feedback. Also, we are happy to answer your questions.

Hello @basim_aman, thanks for trying it out :)
A dark/night mode is also something we would like to have, in fact it is literally the next task from our todo-list, so you can expect it soon!
I wish I could select the start date. The first feeling I felt when I finished setting up a goal was disappointment. It felt like my prior success from the past few days was thrown away. In my head, I know I accomplished the task in the past, but the irrational and emotional part of my brain won over and I was bummed out. Other than that FTU experience, I’m really excited to use your app. It is light weight, but better than paper. Just right.
@jennybee Hi Jen,
Thanks for your feedback. It's really helpful to hear that there is a need for a start date selection. We already had one implemented at the beginning and then removed it because we thought it wouldn't be an interesting choice.
Now, we are planning to add it again. You can expect the start date selection in the next update :)

This is the app I've always wanted.. and even better it's a cat🐈
Hey @imdaeshawn, thanks for your interest and your question! So, it depends what you mean exactly by "retroactively". To explain a bit when you create a new habit in HabitCat it will have both a start and end date. You can at any point modify the state of a day between that range. So if you want to add data points you had before creating the habit (in your case, from another application), that's currently not supported.
Does that answer your question?
In addition, your question makes me think of two things:
1. an export/import feature may be interesting to have as a future feature. But that only seems to makes sens if other habit tracking apps also support such a feature, and would require dedicated work to support each export format
2. we should maybe have a way to let users specify a past starting date for a habit, that way you could at least enter manually past data points
I will discuss these points with @julia_eberhardt, we may implement something like this in an upcoming version.

Hey is there a limit on the number of characters that are displayed for a habit? I tried to plug in Intermittent Fasting but the habit only shows up as Intermittent. Also, any plans for an Android/iOS widget?
@so1us Thanks for trying HabitCat! There isn't a limit on a habit name, no. I just tried to write "Intermittent Fasting" for a new habit and that seems to work. What device are you using?

You can also contact us by email at noodlesoupcollective@gmail.com if you want to share more details.
> Also, any plans for an Android/iOS widget?
Yes! That's something we discussed and want to do in the future, though we don't know when that will come. We are still evaluating different widget options. Also, the next iOS version comes with widget support, so that will definitely become more interesting if we can offer that feature on both platforms.
Thank you a lot for the feedbacks and all of you who tested the app, we really appreciate! It's fantastic to read about people using our project 💖.
We plan to do an update this weekend with the following changes:
- implement a Dark Mode
- fix a visual bug on latest iPhones
- make it possible for users to change the start date of a habit
- other small details to adjust
Additionally a user offered to support Russian, so that's also coming in the near future (or directly with this update, if they are already done translating).
You can expect this update be available at the beginning of next week on your app store :)
An update: we now implemented everything from the list I posted one week ago, and have published a new beta. As soon as it has been tested thoroughly we will release it live 🚀.
