I wish there was a product like the for processes on my mac. My fan is always running and I know there's some BS going on, but activity monitor doesn't give me the info i need to actually know what's unnecessarily running .. This tool is great though!

@mulligan I want that too.

@mulligan In my experience it's almost always Chrome. I keep a CPU meter running in the top bar (MenuMeters) and occasionally it goes nuts.

Hi guys, hope i'm not late. I'm from iMobie, the developer of MacClean, and I would like to answer any questions you may have about this product. We spent about 4 months to develop this tool, that was a really hard but happy period, thanks for ProductHunt who gave us this chance to share this product with you, And your appreciation really encourages us a lot! MacClean version 1 is designed to facilitate the cleaning, it helps users to find and clean the internet junk, user junk, system junk and app junk on the Mac. We added a very little but practical feature in MacClean - locate the junks, thus, you can know what bad been deleted and where those unnecessary files located on your Mac. From the feedback of our users, this feature seems to be highly valued. We will continue our development on MacClean version 2, add more practical features, improve the performance, and optimize the UI. It will be also Free.

I just reclaimed 10GB from running this app on my laptop. Kudos to the team. A couple of small things I would suggest for improvements: 1. I had no idea how long to expect the discovery and cleaning processes to take, and it ended up taking a really long time, leading me to think something had gone awry at a couple of points. Setting some expectations upfront, and preferably also during the process would be reassuring. 2. Some of the UI animations feel a bit superfluous, especially given that the app takes such a long time to complete the process. Seeing your rocket fly through the clouds as it goes about its business is cute, but after an hour it becomes a bit tiresome, and as my fans whirred up during the deletion I couldn't help wonder how much of my CPU was doing the real work and how much of it was doing UI animations.

@stuartfrisby Thanks so much for your suggestions. 1. I had no idea how long to expect the discovery and cleaning processes to take, and it ended up taking a really long time, leading me to think something had gone awry at a couple of points. Setting some expectations upfront, and preferably also during the process would be reassuring. We also received the same feedback from our users. This is what indeed we didn't consider in the version 1. Our designer will add the progress bar in the version 2. About the time to clean is too long, it (an hour) is also unexpected for us. Our dev team will optimize it in the next version. (Meanwhile, we would like to tell you that the CPU usage of our product is efficient, so please do not worry the memory consumption is too large)

So I ran this on two machines and it caused issues on both. I de-selected Internet Junk, but it still wrecked havoc with Chrome. Pretty much every site was missing CSS, so I had to force refreshes on most pages. It also really messed up Sunrise (in Chrome and the native app). I had to revoke credentials from Google's side then re-login. I chose the "Move to Trash" option and a bunch of the files it moved are still in use, including "PublicIdentities.db", "ChunkStoreDatabase", and "CloudKit". So that's frightening.

@eebfg Thanks for your feedback and sorry for the problems caused by MacClean. I just sent this information to our engineers, they are working on this issue now and will fix it as soon as possible.

Ugh, very disappointed :( It entirely wiped out all my Keychain passwords and calendar entries. Don't run this on your machine.

@famouslabs Sorry to reply you late. I'm a freshman here. We have updated our MacClean to version 3 - still for FREE, which has added some AMAZING features with bug fixed, and we sincerely invite you to try it again. Here are the features of MacClean3 now: - System Junk: Safely removes the useless data generated while running system for better performance, including cache files, logs files, app leftovers, etc. - Internet Junk: Cleans up all the junk files from Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome, such as cookies, cache files, download histories, etc. - Malicious Cookie: Scans the trace of malicious cookies and removes them to avoid cookie deception, Internet privacy leaks and vicious cookie tampering. - Privacy Issue: Casts solid protection upon all your private and sensitive data, like the usage of App, recently used documents and chat histories. - Security Issue:Checks all potential risks of your Mac with 3 scan modes (Full Scan, Quick Scan, and Custom Scan), and move those threats to the Quarantine, to prevent your Mac from being further infected. - 10 Cleanup & Optimization Utilities: Old & Large Files, Duplicates Finder, Language File Clean, File Eraser, App Uninstaller, iPhoto Clean, Binary Junk Remover, Extension Manager, Trash Sweeper and iOS Backup Cleanup. - Quarantine: Isolates the suspicious files in this area to prevent your Mac being infected, and allows you to make a choice for completely deleting or putting them back. Hope all of you guys will like it, and any suggestions from you will be appreciated. :)

CleanMyMac seemed to work, but the company is getting greedy with annual subscriptions rather than purchase. So, bye-bye, and I hope MacClean works!

Another application I discovered late! But I couldn't understand why he wanted access to people. I don't want to be malicious but I want to access my contacts why is a tool that removes garbage files?
