More is an iOS app for creating virtual, impromptu get-togethers with new people. Join curated activities or create your own, and other people have 30 minutes to join you. Just because we’re quarantined doesn’t mean we can’t do what inspires us, together.
Hey makers!
A few months ago, we launched an iOS app called “More - Adventure Any Time.” You could find something to do and people to do it with whenever you felt like it. In 30 minutes, you could go from doing nothing at all to having a new experience with new people in real life.
Then came COVID-19. And our product was only live in New York City. Spontaneous IRL meetups and shelter-in-place don’t mix.
So, we came up with this new product to bring the real world to you! We want More to feel like the real world (albeit a more exciting version of it 🥳 ). There’s something almost magical about even little, unplanned interactions with other people. For the past month, our team has been revamping our app. More is our first shot at helping people get that magic back.
Here’s how it works:
1️⃣ Browse through a feed of virtual activities curated by experts and members of the More community.
2️⃣ When you see something you want to do, tap “Join.”
3️⃣ Other users have 30 minutes to join you, and the experience begins!
Some notable features:
🔒 Private, Secure Video Chat. We think we have the best video chat on the planet. First of all, it’s secure. It’s private. And it’s really smooth!
⌛️ Ephemeral Posts. Activities that are about to start or are in progress are visible to anyone else who’s in the app at that moment, but as soon as it’s over, it’s gone.
👨🏼🍳💃🏼 Experiences Led by Experts. Dance with a professional ballroom dancer. Mix bespoke cocktails with a mixologist from a Michelin star-rated restaurant.
🧍Or, led by no one at all. Anyone can create an experience. All you need is a fun idea.

@rossbaltimore This looks amazing! What have been your key human behavior insights since you first launched this?
@rishigb that people don't like doing planned activities. It's interesting, because people do love the *idea* of planned activities, but when the time comes to do it, they aren't in the mood anymore. You plan for an adventure and end up with an obligation.
There seems to be a "mood window" ― a short period of time that you're in the mood to do something ― that comes and goes throughout the day. It's remarkably similar to what food delivery apps face. For Uber Eats: People get hungry, so they pick up their phone and order food, and there's only a short window of time for Uber Eats to get that food to them. For More: people catch a vibe, so they pick up their phone and find something to do, and if they're not doing it very soon, they're over it.

@rossbaltimore This is incredible insight, thank you for sharing! :)
Thanks so much @chrismessina for the Hunt! As we've unfortunately seen, everything can change in a heartbeat. The present moment is all we're ever promised. That's why we're passionate about inspiring people to make the most of right now, whether that's on a mundane Monday morning in Manhattan, or amid a global pandemic. And what is making more of the moment? It’s raw interactions with real people. It’s doing something you wouldn’t ordinarily do, with people you wouldn't ordinarily cross paths with. It’s shaking the guise and security and protection of a face-tuned, filtered reality and leading with your vulnerability. The result can be extraordinary.
As one of our users once wrote, "download it, you won't be disappointed, you will feel free!" 🥰

YUGE! I’m going out of my mind lately, it looks like this could be the biggest quarantine game-changer since Zoom.
@ronald_tillsbury I was just reading a meta-study about the long-term social and psychological effects of quarantine. Isolation is bad. But, the lack of environmental stimulation (no exposure to new places, or different people in familiar places) might be worse. The negative effects can last years! It’s scary.
You can do something new and actually participate in a whole new experience in an unfamiliar environment. And do it with new people. I think (and hope) More can help solve a big problem for people.

How has the pivot in product been? Better or worse?
@edisonjoao6871 let's see how the rest of today goes and I'll let you know then 😂
The move to virtual has gone really well. I still miss the IRL version, but I think we all miss IRL everything.
I have really been missing human connection during all of this "social distancing". I am so excited that More will give me a way to avoid feeling lonely and a really cool way to stay engaged. Thank you guys for this awesome creation! We need it now more than ever.
