Hey folks! As a remote team from the early days, we've relied on collaboration tools to get things done.
One aspect that we were never happy with was document editors. Existing tools did not appear optimized for the kind of jobs to be done we had – for example iterating on product pitches.
So we built our own editor that does 3 things really well:
1. Enriching text with flowcharts, wireframes and other visual content (and then jumping between the two without much hassle)
2. Speed of writing and editing experience
3. Real-time and async collaboration
On top of that we sprinkled some of the Whimsical magic, such as the time machine and focus mode.
Please give it a spin and let us know what you think!

@k7d Love your work guys, big fan of Whimsical. It's looking like developing the potential to replace Notion at this rate!

@k7d I'm rooting for you guys to replace Confluence & Jira & Zeplin in my product marketing & business operations.

@k7d Thanks, Whimsical Docs looks great!
But what I do really miss is the opposite: I would like to have an infinite canvas where I have mind-maps, cards, links, etc and where I can attach some internal/external documents to these items so I can "dive deeper" into some topics from the canvas and back.
Because for now, it seems to me I should move my notes to Whimsical Docs from Notion/Bear/etc.
At the moment linking inside Whimsical is working not so well: not every elements can have links, there are problems with putting some external links, etc.
It's just my case, but I hope you get the point.
I'm a huge whimsical fan and have been for years, and this latest feature is more of the same - delightfully useful, usable, and well thought-out. Being able to place diagrams and wireframes within a document, rather than having multiple files scattered and linked from elsewhere is just brilliant. Absolutely loving it.
Once upon a time there was sliced bread but that went stale. Then came Whimsical and harmony was restored to the world. Hyperbolic review? Yeah, just a wee bit :) But Whimsical is awesome. Use it every day.
I've been a Whimsical user for a while as it's the quickest way to produce a good looking diagram. I typically use it for flowcharts, data models, or team structure diagrams.
Coincidentally, we just cancelled our Dropbox account because we never used the storage but we did love Dropbox Paper. This seems like it'll be a suitable replacement for collaborative documents AND diagrams.
Top tip: you can write in Markdown and if you copy the text and paste into a text editor, you'll get the markdown version. If you paste into a rich text editor, you'll get the rich text version. This wasn't immediately obvious but I'm very grateful that it Just Works™
@ideasasylum Yes! 🙌🏼 Glad you noticed that about the markdown. That was the handiwork of @nate_hunzaker. Additional tip: you can right-click to get options like Copy as Plain Text.
As a PM, Whimsical is my favourite product BY FAR. I can't say enough about how seamlessly all their products work together and how good their attention to detail is. As someone building in the Document editing space with gSweets I'm so fkn pumped to have Whimsical raising the bar for what a Document editor should be. Focus mode + Typewriter mode look magical and I can't wait to try it out.
Kudos to the whole team @k7d !
@jeremykovac Thanks for the kind words Jeremy! It means a lot (truly). We decided to build our text editor from scratch so that we could control and refine every detail. It's always a work-in-progress but we're excited about where we can take it from here.
Also, gSweets looks very cool!
Big update! I've been a fan of Whimsical for simple flow charting and wireframing in the browser. This expansion makes a lot of sense.

Never expected a day that I would be able to write Docs on Whimsical. Really grateful for this 👏👏
What I found atm is that Shift+Enter doesn't work. Maybe you guys can fix this later, other than that it's amazing. Love the simplicity ❤️

@adytra Hey there! When you're using Shift + Enter, are you trying to submit a comment? Or are you using that keyboard shortcut combo to try and do something else (like a soft return?)? Drop us a line at help@whimsical.com and we're happy to dig in & help :)
Big fan of Whimsical and use it a lot for product work.
Excited for this new release! Thank you for keeping UX in mind and not overcomplicating the tool.
Your power is in the simplicity ✨
