Descript has evolved a ton since it first launched on PH six years ago. This new expansion, Underlord (great name, btw), is another step toward the video-creation singularity. 😛
Descript's Underlord is one of the best application of AI so far. Its ability to take out fillers and fix gaze direction is really cool ❤️

@jgani thank you so much for this support Jonni :) can't wait for you to try out all the new features, too!

Descript is almost a daily use product for me. Thank you for endlessly making it better and more fun.

@lenny_rachitsky Thanks Lenny! You're a daily read for us around here :)

I make a podcast and at least one short-form video every single day. 7 days a week. Descript is my editor of choice as it makes my high output very seamless. Thank you @andrewmason and team.
Whitney Steele
@andrewmason @edward_sturm we're so glad it's working for you. Can't wait to hear what you think about Underlord and the new UI!

Descript's new Underlord tool sounds incredibly powerful. How does its AI specifically help in the video editing process?
Whitney Steele
@memphys_sk the short version is that Underlord can tackle a bunch of the more tedious editing tasks like removing your retakes, removing filler words, and creating clips for social media. It can also do some really eye-popping things (pun intended) like rotating your eyeballs so it looks like you were looking at the camera, even if you're reading off a script. You can check out the full set of Underlord powers at https://www.descript.com/underlord

Big fan of the name you've chosen for your AI assistant 😁

We use Descript for our Podcast, I think it's awesome compared to Riverside etc, especially at the price. It's sometimes buggy, but they "move fast and break things". I dont think we would have had the time to start an podcast but for the tool. Not sure if I like the name underlord though, I get the want to differentiate from "co-pilot, assistant" etc but Spielberg or Quentin may have been friendlier names.
Whitney Steele
@ty_robb appreciate the thoughtful feedback! We talked about this during the live event, but if you haven't yet, give the web app a try and see if it's more stable for you. Let us know what you think!
Christopher Washington
@ty_robb how do you use descript for multiple guest with multiple angles. Do you record directly into descrip or record elsewhere and pull footage into descript. What about remote guest
Tyrone Robb
@christopher_washington4 they bought squadcast which is great for remote guests. You could log in with seperate emails (Christopher 1, and Christory 2) for each camera then when editing mute one audio track, at that point you could pick either camera to focus on. It's a bit hacky but would be relatively easy to do. Could be weird for your guests to see you twice. Ours is relatively simple, usually only one guest, one camera each. I have had 6 people before but i was not a podcast so we didn't edit it.

Love this approach of keeping the human in the driver seat and having AI as the underlord to assist :)
Whitney Steele
@aluebs let's be honest, AI is not ready to take the wheel
Shushant Lakhyani
Oh wow, this looks good. Are you planning to add more features here like realistic AI video avatars?

Love the name! Descript was magic from the first time I used it, and although it took a little time for me to understand Scenes, I eventually became a believer. This feels like an incredibly obvious application of AI that's so, so hard to get right, and knowing the Descript team, they've put a ton of thought into the UX here. Looking forward to trying it out!

So excited to be a part of this. I think this new UI really shows the power we give to the user!

Descript is one of the most impressive video editing tools I've encountered. I'm new to it despite you are already introducing latest powerful AI features. The clean UI packed with robust features has left me thoroughly impressed. I'm excited to dive in and explore this product further!

Descript just gets better and better! Loving the term OverLord too

LOVE descript and excited about the capabilities this offers. Curious about the values underpinning 'Underlord' name - in the promotional email the naming logic is shared as "nobody wants an AI overlord, but everybody could use an AI Underlord". Are 'Lords' relevant to creativity, community, etc? Is dominance/hierarchy/authority/control-over-others/obedience, house of lords, dieties of control etc, representative of Descripts ethics, and users' values, and trust building? Is this an insider humour? Language matters; would love descript to consider 'power-with' language that represents its concern with ethics, instead of power over/under. It's important to look ahead at what is invoked in people when using these tools, by the language given to them. Thanks

Is this the product I've been waiting for all my life? It just might be.
