👋 Hey PH!
I’m thrilled to share a project born from a simple idea: some tools should just be free, simple, and do one thing perfectly. Meet NumGenie.
It all started with a familiar moment of hesitation:
"Do I really want to use my personal phone number to sign up for this trial?"
We all need placeholder numbers for countless reasons, whether it's for testing apps, trying out new services, or creating content. But the options were always clunky, limited, or looked obviously fake. We wanted something better.
NumGenie is a clean, simple, and beautiful way to generate random, valid-format phone numbers on demand.
It’s the tool we wish we had, so we decided to build it for everyone.
Why we built it:
✅ Privacy matters. We wanted to stop giving away our real numbers for temporary uses.
✅ We believe in good design. Placeholder data shouldn't make your beautiful mockups look bad.
✅ Simplicity is powerful. We were tired of tools bloated with ads and unnecessary features.
✅ We needed a tool for a global world, not just US-based numbers.
A few things I'm proud of:
✨ Elegant & Simple: We obsessed over making the experience clean, intuitive, and a joy to use.
🔐 Completely Anonymous: No sign-up, no cookies, no tracking. Your privacy is paramount.
🚀 Built for Action: One-click generation with easy copy. It's designed to be useful in under 5 seconds.
If you’re a maker, a marketer, a designer, or just someone who values privacy and well-crafted tools, I hope you’ll find NumGenie useful.
We’re launching it completely free for the Product Hunt community. I’d be so grateful for your feedback. Let us know what you think and what we should build next! 💬

@prasanta_raut This looks super exciting! Congrats on the launch
@prasanta_raut This is great!. The only feedback I've is that I would use the use case of your product (eg, testing) in the hero section so people understand why they could use or need your product and why they are prompted to generate numbers.

@nico_ramella Thank you so much for the thoughtful feedback! 🙏 We really appreciate your suggestion about highlighting the use case in the hero section — it’s a great idea and something we’ll consider for future updates to make NumGenie even clearer and more user-friendly. 🚀

@onuoha_05 Thank you so much 🙏 Thrilled you liked the simplicity and focus on privacy — that was a big priority for us while building NumGenie. 🌍✨ Your support means a lot! 🚀
Especially for me, it's something I would use as a Product designer I work mostly with using placeholder as my data when designing.

Interesting! I actually have 2 questions out of curiosity.
What if it gives away a phone number which already belongs to someone? Maybe not today, but tomorrow it could be someone's number if they coincidentally purchase a SIM bearing that number.
Have you considered the legal implications?
One Indian number Numgenie displayed to me turned out be someone's real number. I understand there is no misuse or possession involved here, but such a number if ever used for dummy sign-ups, could end up being unfair to the real owner.

@ashok_nayak Thank you for your questions and observations! 🙏
NumGenie generates random numbers for testing and temporary use only, and it doesn’t provide access to or possession of real numbers. We understand the concern — numbers are generated algorithmically and there’s a small chance they may overlap with real-world numbers. That’s why we clearly recommend using them only for testing, mockups, or placeholders, and not for any live transactions or verifications that could affect real users.
We take privacy and legal compliance seriously and continue to explore ways to minimize any accidental overlap. Your feedback is valuable as we refine the tool! 🌍⚡

I love the value proposition of "Privacy matters. We wanted to stop giving away our real numbers for temporary uses." Really useful stuff. Well done!

@andrewdietekoki Thank you so much! 🙏 We’re thrilled you see the value in NumGenie. Protecting privacy while making numbers accessible was exactly our goal — really appreciate your support! 🚀
Nice, simple tool — exactly what I wish existed when mocking signup flows. Quick question: do you support region-specific formatting rules (like India vs China vs US) and can we lock a chosen country so generated numbers always match that locale?

@jaredl Thank you so much 🙏 Glad you find it useful for signup flow mockups — that’s exactly the kind of use case we had in mind! 🎯
Right now, NumGenie supports global generation by default 🌍, but region-specific formatting and country-lock options are on our roadmap. We want to give users more control so they can tailor numbers to specific markets like India, China, or the US. 🚀
Really appreciate the feedback — it helps us prioritize what to build next! 🙌

Interesting idea! Incorporating features like virtual numbers, OTP access, and generating an actual virtual number from various countries could be a nice addition to it.

@shahi_ferdous Thank you for the great feedback! 🙏 We definitely see potential in expanding NumGenie with features like OTP access and virtual numbers tied to specific countries. For now, we’ve kept it lightweight for quick testing and mockups, but we’re exploring ways to make it even more powerful while keeping it simple and privacy-focused. 🚀
@borut Thank you so much! 🙏 Really appreciate your wishes and support. Excited for what’s ahead! 🚀
