Take the dreaded chore out of creating documentation. Onboard new hires, resolve customer issues, and share product updates faster. Documentation that whistles while you work.
👋 Hey PH! And thank you @theclairbyrd for the hunt!
Ken here, Co-founder & CEO of Tango. Along with @brian_shultz and @dangio25, we founded Tango to take the dread out of systems training and process documentation. Ever spent time taking screenshots and writing how-to guides? It sucks. Teaching others how to use software is a real pain. And learning how to get stuff done takes forever.
With an all-star team, we set out to make it dead simple to capture tribal knowledge and to make everyone more productive.
After months of building and acting on pilot feedback, we’re proud to share Tango with the world. What started as an idea to digitally “shadow” co-workers blossomed into the fastest way to capture and share know-how. Today thousands of beta users use Tango to:
🤓 Onboard and train new employees
📋 Establish and circulate best practices and SOPs
💻 Share release notes on new product updates
🔨 Help customers navigate complex workflows
⏰ Adapt to a distributed workforce where asynchronous communication is key
Tango’s Chrome Extension is a compact yet powerful tool that automatically creates step-by-step how-to guides as you complete your work. We capture screenshots, links, and descriptions to save you time and energy. The best part: you become your team’s hero!
How exactly do we make that happen?
🔍 Capture all your actions in the browser, across any site
📝 Edit and annotate step titles, descriptions, URLs to provide more context
🎨 Mark up and blur screenshots to call attention or hide sensitive info
💌 Share with others through a direct invitation or copying a unique link
📩 Paste into almost any tool with our ✨ Magic Copy-Paste ✨
Starting today, anyone can download our Chrome extension for free by visiting https://tango.us. We are building our paid features in the months to come, but there will always be a free version.
We’re excited and grateful to hear what you think. We know this group’s feedback will make our product better. Thanks for reading! 🙏
Let’s Tango! 💃
@theclairbyrd@brian_shultz@dangio25@ken_babcock This product really interesting and could really help startups as they onboard new people, and create bigger departments. I have to say though, the video was exceptional! I was smiling and engaged the entire time "saving myself a crudtonne of work"😂😂😂😂
@oleksiy_malytskyy I did a screen recording of myself using a beta of Tango many months back, not knowing exactly what it did. When it got to the point where the screenshots automatically displayed in order, with that zoom effect, I literally starting tearing up. That's how surprising and amazing that ah-ha moment was for me!
I've been following Tango's development over the past year and I love it. I think Tango is addressing a deeply human need. It's easy to send a link. It's easy to send a screenshot. But it's really hard to send a series of steps to someone in a story format. That's where Tango really blows me away.
Here's an example. I'm considering flying to Poland in the summer of 2022. Before Tango, I'd do a bunch of travel research, say something vague to my wife like "It looks expensive but I think we should do it," and she'd end up redoing all the research from scratch. With Tango, I can show her the exact research I did, which means she can build on it.
Check out this example. This is real research I did, with a few dead-ends removed with Tango's fantastic edit functionality: https://app.tango.us/app/workflo...
Congratulations to the whole Replay team, and thanks for building something that saves me time and helps me "show my work," just like my math teachers always told me to! (And the UX polish I've seen over the last month or so has been really impressive! Kudos!)
@delightfuljon we are all smiling ear to ear over here on Zoom! "He shared a workflow!!! 😍" You're the man! Thank you for all the feedback this last year. So grateful for you 🙌
@ken_babcock This is a perfect tool for anyone who is planning to set up a support team or hire an assistant. Just an idea for an upsell- add Voice Generator + Automatic Video Editor and generate video guides that might be useful for a lot of startups that never figured out how to create a decent guid.
@ken_babcock 3 onboarding so far everyone love the product. As an idea into your pipeline I feel like there is an opportunity to create wiki of onboarding and explanation videos and still traffic from YouTube.
Awesome stuff, congrats on the launch! Super fast way to document processes — and even faster for the viewer since it focuses on the important highlights. Better than video for sharing step-by-step workflows!
I'm amazed at how easy Tango makes it to create explanatory workflows for everyone. This feels like the new standard in creating user guides and tutorials, without having to spend hours writing up documentation or stitching screenshots.
@ericsr Thanks for the support! Capturing workflows on desktop (and between desktop and web) is definitely on our upcoming roadmap. We would love to hear more about your specific use case - what types of applications would you like to use? What OS are you on?
@ericsr@kristiehoward I need this too, so I can share a use case - I'm trying to document a development process on Mac OS Big Sur that requires a user to connect to VPN, type terminal commands, connect to FTP, and then run a script. Other apps that would be really important for my type of documentation include Tower and other Git clients, VSCode, Adobe XD, and for my teammates, Sublime Text and Coda.
This was actually the first thing I tried to do, and was super bummed to find out I couldn't do it. I teach web development as well, and a tool like yours would be an absolute game changer if it could be run as an app on my desktop that can record my movements across many apps. Some examples of processes I'd like to document this way include How to create a new release, how to share an Adobe XD link with the correct permissions, and how to create a new client project website (which involves copying code from a certain template, updating it, and then uploading it to a certain place).
Congrats on the launch! It's a brilliant idea and solves a problem for me as I find creating documentation slow and tedious. I just installed the extension and tested on a new function we're building and 2 minutes later Tango had created perfect documentation.
I've shared with my co-founder and I'm sure we'll be using Tango over the next few days to build up our documentation. Thank you for building this! :)
@brian_shultz It would be cool if you could change the color of the highlight - orange is a little off brand for us ;) Otherwise, so far it works really, really well!
Congrats all! I’ve been following along with Tango for a bit now. This product is great, the tech is built the *right* way, solving the hard tech problems. Only going to get better from here. Can’t wait to deploy at my company.
We've been using Tango for a while and I love that you can blur sensitive info and add arrows/boxes like in Cleanshot. Such an awesome product. Congrats @brian_shultz and team!
Looks great and very promising! Educating users is really hard. 😊 It reminds of some elearning courses we created a couple of years ago, using the same "click here on this screenshot" workflow. The problems we faced later on were design/interfaces changes, (had to update hundreds of screenshots and adjust the steps 🤯) and we had people just clicking through all steps and not learning anything. Just wanted to share with you our experiences.
@johan_kenzeler This is *awesome* feedback. Nowadays, content goes stale so quickly -- websites get updated weekly. It's really hard to keep up. That's why we tried to make it as easy as possible to automatically create documentation :) Let us know if you have any feedback! Would love to chat more about your experience.
Created a sample workflow and this is awesome. Loom is an alternative nowadays but videos are more difficult to skim compared to a screenshots. All the best!
@akhil_mk Loom is great for explaining concepts, but for how-tos, it's so much easier to have a succinct step-by-step guide with screenshots. Thanks so much for trying Tango!
This seems really great for visually showing product updates rather than just plain lines of text!
It'll provide a better experiences for current users and increase conversions of new ones!
Congrats on the launch!
Wow! Clean, fast and simple. Such a streamlined fluid way to create a workflow and share it. Great execution of a great idea! Congrats on the launch team Tango!
@samuel_briskar Hey Samuel! That's a really great question! Screen recordings are great for explaining context, but for step-by-step instructions - it's really inefficient. When you take screenshots of just the most important actions, it's much more concise and easy to read for the viewer. Also, as a creator, you don't need to start over if you make a mistake :)
@brian_shultz thank you! I used both - videos + screenshots. It is true, that do screenshots it is quite easy to create. But my users have a problem to even find the thing on the screen :D
Good luck! 🤞
Tango has been a game-changer for how we share knowledge internally. We've gone from having almost no onboarding guides to detailed step by step flows so that we can ramp up teammates quickly. Thanks Tango team and congrats on the launch!
