Thank you for making this. My Wife and I both work from home and have been discussing building an office in the back yard. The catch has been finding the balance between aesthetics and price. Dwelito looks like its found just that. Let us know when you start shipping to Canada!
Hey PH, and thanks for the hunt @bentossell!
Dwellito Mini Office is a product designed for the times. We've been working (in our homes) to figure out how to offer mini-offices to those that need a legitimate work station. With all the distractions that comes with WFH, we wanted to create a alternative: a home-office, outside the home. So we decided on a design that met 3 criteria:
-Bigger than a phone booth, enough to fit a desk.
-Shipping 8 weeks or less
We simplified the design / system of parts to the core essentials but prefabrication is really the key to this. Prefab is the reason for faster build and delivery times, and lower costs.
We're excited to share this product with you and hope you can get one yourself. As always, we'd love to hear your feedback!
@bentossell@calebarclay Dwellito is legit one of my favorite sites on the internet. Beautifully designed, great content, and an awesome investment strategy if you have spare land. Nicely done!
@calebarclay I really like how creative this is. It's overall budget friendly when you consider commute, and rent, and everything, but it's actually a game changer as well! It gets you out of your normal living space into a dedicated office space. I don't have an immediate need but I like this on the personal/working health angle. Great stuff!
@fitzn Thank you for the kind words! It's been awesome to see how many people are interested in having a retreat studio, whether for work or for hobby.
@calebarclay this looks awesome and i'll probably order at some point
but some of the pricing is confusing. why's it cost $88 to select "none" for the cooling/heating option? seems like setting a low base price that you can't actually order a unit for $8,234 because even selecting no customization increases the price. Why not just list the actual price for the zero customization option and then only increase the price if someone customises from the default?
@calebarclay got it. also was wondering about the interior and exterior "customizations"
do you have to pay the $800 extra for drywall exterior and $900 for smooth exterior?
you can't just not select either of those. right? so imho the base price should show those as $0 and then only show the additional cost for customizations that you make. the base options should be built into the floor price imho
@jmarcowelker That's a great observation. Most of the modular homes on the site will have additional costs: permitting, site work, site conditions, utility hookup, etc. We constantly work on better mapping out those numbers.
This is awesome 👍
@calebarclay the financing options described on the site seem oriented toward the modular homes (not the offices). What types of financing are in play for the offices?
@conarro Great question. Financing is something we are working on. There are the conventional options using refi, or a line-of-credit. But we're trying to find ways to finance this like you would a car and make payments, or even "renting" the office for a 6mo lease.
I like this alot! But why is there only a limited amount? Will you bring it back to market again, since it is selling out? It would be a real let down if I can't buy this when I finally have the cash.
@jessehojjensen Yes, 100%. This limited amount was to make sure the fabrication could be done on schedule (8 weeks). Feel free to fill out the form so we can get you on the list.
At first I did the math and thought this was a very expensive option... then I looked up the average price per sq foot in my state (New Jersey) and this is actually $20 cheaper.. seems cool.
@themsaid The wall unit / condenser unit would be the way to go in hotter/colder temperatures. Since the space is so small, we're going to run a test with the Dyson fan in Arizona's summer.
