Someday we won't have to deal with Bill Lumberghs walking into our cubicles, Ron Burgundies barging into our circles and hijacking the entire conversation. For now, we'll have to deal with conference call after conference call exacerbating that dynamic and relegating every gathering to a congressional hot mess in which either everybody is allocated structured speaking time, or the whole thing devolves into a one-to-many lecture in which we all twiddle our thumbs while a select few drone on and on and on.
But better days are coming and Topia's leading the charge on that, by zeroing in on what's genuinely meaningful in proximal engagement -- no complicated avatars, no processor-hogging virtual-world rendering, no need to open the hood and program an RPG map. It's a sit-and-go whose usefulness and elegant simplicity is self-evident on your first experience with it, and increases as you shift your attention to what you could do with it.
In a year where the pandemic undermined all of the usual festive occasions, I didn't get to assemble all the fine friends I'm lucky to have in the city where I'm living now for my birthday this year. Instead, I got to assemble all the friends from 30 *years* and multiple continents, knowing that they'd get to convene with the lovely friends of their own that had scattered across the globe over the years as careers and families dispersed us all. And I just laughed at how wonderful it was to see those particular combinations of friends assembled and creating magic again, in a manner that could only happen with all members present and building off of one another, amidst so many years of shared experiences together.
As we geographically disperse over the years, it gets harder to create things together -- the joys of being in a bonafide circle of friends gives way to carefully maintaining just the individual ties among us, and even that gets precarious as work and family wear on us, narrowing our rest-time to just the activities that can be done without effort. Everybody else here is already highlighting the functionality of Topia and the many, many things they've done right in defining what product was actually worth building; I'll cap this lengthy writeup with the simple declaration that I would much rather live in a world where my time can be spent making new experiences together with friends in Topia, realizing the promise that the early internet offered, instead of the status quo of vegging on streaming services, consuming social media "content" algo-optimized for captology-based commerce, and grinding through endless videoconference-hours. I reckon that you will, too.
Looks fun! I know it works, I've tried and tested similar solutions and the immediate impact is super nice. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to last long, since people being online mostly have a newfound way of being bored a looot quicker
@finnley_morris for us, it's all about that human connection

Just love what you're making here. Love the idea of having my own world to welcome my friends, especially during social distancing.
How do you think Topia usage may evolve as Covid lockdowns lift?
@laur_science We expect that the world has changed and that people will continue to want a really accessible and fun way to interact with one another online. Topia is also going to add lots of great features and functionality over the coming months that will help evolve what it means to be social online.

Topia is the most fun way to interact online. I love cocreating worlds with my friends. It reminds me of building lego worlds as a kid except this time I get to build a world to share experiences in.
@sam_langer thanks so much for sharing your experience. We've been hearing similar sentiments from users -- the ability to create an entire world to host friends from around the world taps into both a child-like playfulness and a touch of wizardry.
